Very rare Sevres Palace Urns near the quarter-million dollar mark at Roland's March 8th auction

GLEN COVE, NY.- The much talked about very rare Important Pair of Sevres Palace Urns took center stage at Roland Auctions NY Multi-Estates auction on Saturday, March 8th, selling for a whopping $240,000 to a long-standing Roland customer in France, bringing the urns back home again. This monumental pair of Sevres porcelain palace urns, French, 19th century, featured vasiform elaborated decorated with bands of blooming flowers, Greek key and acanthus details, and large swags of ripe fruit and blooming flowers, centered by bronze dore figure heads Baccchus, all resting on square gilded plinth, [32.5" H x 17.25" W x 14.75" D]. A Similar pair similar pair sold at Bonhams in December 2023.

Roland Auctions NY presents never viewed before Aga Khan protégé Akbar Padamsee painting March 28th

GLEN COVE, NY.- Roland Auctions NY will present a rare, never viewed before 1962 oil on canvas painting by acclaimed Indian Modernist painter Akbar Padamsee (1928 – 2020), who was once a protégé of The Aga Khan. One of the pioneers and stalwarts of Indian modern art, Akbar Padamsee went to live in Paris from his native Mumbai in the early 1960’s, after his family got the blessing of the Aga Khan, the religious and spiritual head of the Khoja Muslim community to which Akbar’s family belonged - who, at that time, was visiting India. He not only endorsed Akbar’s desire to specialize in art but also suggested he should go to Paris for further studies. The Aga Khan’s approval and blessings, in effect, sealed Akbar’s destiny. This untitled painting will be the highlight of Roland Auction’s much-anticipated March 28th2026 spring auction, and had previously been part of a prominent New York City family’s personal collection. The Padamsee was purchased in France in 1964 and remained in the one family all these years.The Akbar Padamsee (Indian, 1928-2020) is an untitled 20th Century oil on canvas depicting an abstract composition.

Contemporary Art Dominates Roland Auctions NY's Fall Estates Sale

Contemporary works secured the highest prices of the day. The top lot was Robert Natkin’s Intimate Lightening Red (1971), an oil on canvas measuring 48 by 96 inches. Signed and titled on the verso, and accompanied by an appraisal from David Findlay Junior Inc., the painting achieved a final price of $35,750.
